Join the Blank Park Zoo's educational coordinator as they show and tell about different animals at the zoo - and check out some our animal books at the library!
Summer might be almost over, but you can spend the last few days walking around in style with your brand new fancy flip flops. Kids going into 3rd-8th grade can come and decorate a pair of flip flops to wear during the last few days of summer. All of the materials will be provided. Please preregister for this program.
Children entering kindergarten and their caregivers are welcome to join us for stories, crafts and tips to help them get ready for their first day in kindergarten!
Learn how to discover everything we have at Central Library during our Family Scavenger Hunt! Stop by the Children's area between 5:00pm and 6:30pm to begin and find out all kinds of amazing things at the library while being entered to win a prize jar of your choice. Scavenger hunt will take between 30 minutes to 1 hour.
Learn how to create your own puppet using our craft supplies and a provided sock! Feel free to bring your own interesting sock. Afterwards, you can put on a puppet show using your creation. Parent/Guardian must be present and registration is encouraged, but drop-ins are welcome!
Learn how to use DMPL's online resources to check out books and audiobooks for kids, teens and beyond! We will cover 3M, Wilbor, and Tumblebooks, giving an overview of what's available and a brief walk through on getting them on a device. Afterwards, browse some titles on our 3M e-readers, available for checkout. Please bring your library card and PIN number. You must be a resident of Des Moines or Windsor Heights. Children will need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Registrations are encouraged and drop-ins are welcome!
