Martin Luther: Reluctant Rebel

Honoring the 500th Anniversary of the Reformation, Dr. Mark Mattes, Department Chair, Theology and Philosophy, Grand View University, will look at the events that sparked Luther’s protest against the medieval church and the profound changes, both intentional and unintentional, which it brought to Western Civilization. Details of Luther’s life and thinking, along with its impact on and significance for wider society, will be presented. Plan for both an informative and stimulating presentation.

Learn to Draw Manga with the Des Moines Art Center!

Are you a Manga fanatic? Want to try your hand at drawing in the manga style?? Learn about Drawing Manga with a guest instructor from the Des Moines Art Center! Practice your technique and make your own creations to take home. For those entering 4th-12 grades.

Participants are required to attend both days (07/24/2017 and 07/26/2017), as instruction is given on both days and projects are cumulative.

Teen Life: Ace Your Job Interview!

Are you a teen that needs help preparing for a job interview? Come to South's Ace Your Job Interview session to practice your interview skills! Students in Grades 6-12 are encouraged to dress up and participate in a mock interview with local job recruiters. Afterwards, recruiters will give teens feedback they can use for their next job interview! Preregistration is required.
