Our librarians have purged our collection to make room for new books and will be offering fantastic books during this special book sale. Art and artist books, CDs of all types, sheet music, scores, librettos, biographies, popular fiction, children's books, and much more.

*The Central Library will be open June 27 for this book sale only. Library services will not be available.

How Iowa Met Baseball - The Myths, the History, the Players

John Liepa has gathered baseball cards for over 50 years. John’s collection now includes photographs, autographs, books, and memorabilia of most of Iowa’s approximately 214 baseball players who have made it to the major leagues, including many cards and photos of six of the seven “Hall of Famers” from Iowa. His presentation combines his passion for Iowa history and baseball. As a tribute to Iowa’s first major league player, Cal McVey, John wears an 1869 Cincinnati Redstocking uniform during the program.

AViD Author Visit: Steve Berry

AViD Author Steve Berry’s presentation has been moved from 7:00 PM, April 10 at the Central Academy Auditorium to Saturday, April 11 at 2:00 PM and will be held at the Central Library, 1000 Grand Avenue. This move has happened due to a weather related flight cancellation.

The Steve Berry’s Writer’s Workshop will still be held Saturday, April 11 from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Plymouth Church.

AViD Author Visit: John Stauffer

Stauffer, a Des Moines native, is the author or editor of fifteen books and more than 100 articles, including two that have been national bestsellers: GIANTS: The Parallel Lives of Frederick Douglass and Abraham Lincoln and State of Jones, co-authored with Washington Post columnist Sally Jenkins, soon to be a major motion picture directed by Gary Ross. His most recent book, The Battle Hymn of the Republic, co-authored with Benjamin Soskis, was a Lincoln Prize finalist.
