Heart of Iowa Classical Guitar Society

Steven Kennedy will perform a concert of classical guitar pieces at the Central Library on Friday April 21 from 12:00-1:00 pm. Steven teaches guitar at Simpson College and Central College. He is also president of the Heart of Iowa Classical Guitar Society. The performance is free and open to the public and will be held in the Music Wing on the second floor of the Central Library.

Teen / Tween Coding with Dash-Dot Robots

Dash & Dot are robots that teach coding. Use Blockly, a Scratch-inspired app, to practice programming by dragging and dropping commands into place. Our challenge: Learn to code in order to make Dash do the chicken dance! No prior coding experience necessary. For those entering 4th-12th grades. Teen / Tween Coding with Ozobot

The Ozobot Bit is a fun way to get involved with basic programming. Amazingly, the bots can follow basic coding principals that you draw for them on paper! Or, use the OzoBlockly application, inspired by Scratch, to do mazes and brainteasers. No prior coding experience necessary. For those entering 4th-12th grades. Heart of Iowa Classical Guitar Society

The “Duo Tangazo” of David Crabbs (guitarist) and Norman Sue (bandoneónist) will perform a concert of Argentinian tango pieces at the Central Library on Friday May 5 from 12:00-1:00 pm. Come and join us for an hour of music and fun. The performance is free and open to the public and will be held in the Music Wing on the second floor of the Central Library.



Coding with Bee-Bot

Kids will have so much fun with Bee-Bot, they might not realize they’re learning pre-coding skills! Bee-Bot is a colorful, easy-to-operate, and friendly little robot that actually helps kids to learn sequencing, estimation, problem-solving, and simple coding. Plus, they’re just fun! This activity is for those entering K – 3rd grades.

Learn to Draw Manga with the Des Moines Art Center!

Are you a Manga fanatic? Want to try your hand at drawing in the manga style?? Learn about Drawing Manga with a guest instructor from the Des Moines Art Center! Practice your technique and make your own creations to take home. For those entering 4th-12 grades.

Participants are required to attend both days (07/24/2017 and 07/26/2017), as instruction is given on both days and projects are cumulative.
