Wonder of Words Festival

The 2017 Wonder of Words Festival will celebrate the written word with local and national authors. New this year is a collaboration with the Des Moines Public Library. The indoor festival features presentations and book signings by authors of both national and local acclaim, as well as workshops, children’s entertainment/activities, and a storytelling competition.

The lineup will feature best-selling and nationally-renowned authors including:

• Caron Levis the author of Ida, Always a beautiful portrait of friendship.

AViD presents Maureen Corrigan

The Des Moines Public Library is excited to announce this year’s full lineup for our Authors Visiting in Des Moines (AViD) lecture series! Now in its 17th year, AViD is a highly acclaimed, free lecture series that connects world-famous authors with an audience from across the state.

Maureen Corrigan will take part in AViD in conjunction with the Wonder of Words Festival on Saturday, April 22. Corrigan is best known as the book critic of the popular NPR Radio program Fresh Air.

STEM Kids: Float my Boat Challenge

STEM Kids presents a boat building challenge! Engineer your own floatation device. Meet outside near the water feature on the south side of the library. Design a boat that will hold as much weight as possible without sinking! We will test our designs and the boat that can hold the most pennies will win a prize. Groups of 10 or more are asked to call ahead at 248-6431. In case of rain, activity will be held in the Imagination Station inside.
