Authors Visiting in Des Moines (AViD) is proud to welcome author James Edward Mills to the Forest Avenue Library to discuss his recent book, The Adventure Gap. Mills will discuss why minority populations are less likely to seek recreation and adventure in the wilderness and what can be done to bridge that gap. This event is sponsored by the Forest Avenue Brick Fund Committee.
Special guest, Dawn Martinez Oropeza, will teach families about the life of Cesar Chavez, the labor leader and civil rights activist, in a fun and interactive way. Ms. Oropeza, who was asked by Cesar's family to conserve and preserve his private office space and artifacts in affiliation with the Smithsonian Latino Center, will share stories and artifacts regarding Cesar's life.
