America's Music 2

Music styles that originated in the United States during the twentieth century are the subject of America's Music 2, a series of programs running on four consecutive Tuesdays beginning September 9. The Broadway, Latin, blues, and rock genres will be spotlighted. Selected film clips receive expert analysis from Drake musicology professor Dr. Eric Saylor, followed by a lively audience discussion. Registration for the series is required and limited to 100 people. Preregistration opened August 1.

The Belin Quartet Live Performance

The Franklin Avenue Library welcomes The Belin Quartet. The quartet is well known in the greater Des Moines community for their free noon-time concerts during the summer. Members of the quartet include violinists Julie Fox Henson, John Helmich, Tracy Engman Finkelshteyn, violist Sherida Josephson, and cellist George Work. The Belin Quartet was established in 2000 by a generous grant to the Civic Music Association from David Belin's charitable foundation, the Iowa Foundation for Education, Environment, and the Arts.
