I woke up to snow falling two mornings this week! If this hasn't been the perfect winter to stay home and read, I don't know what is. I hear we may have some warmer weather next week, but there are still two more weeks to participate in the Winter Reading Program. Keep reading and keep sending us your reviews! Thanks to everyone who has participated so far! Here is this week's winner:
A Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin
George R.R. Martin has written a series, A Song of Ice and Fire, surely just to addict you. A Game of Thrones is the first book in the series and introduces you to a world based in a supernatural medieval time of kings, war, corruption and hope, a hope for survival. It strategically introduces you to characters full of depth. Every chapter is a vivid perspective of each leading character and each perspective takes you to another part of the 7 kingdoms. The book jumps you from one exciting chapter to another like a sweet soap opera, moving the plot along with each chapter like their chess pieces. The second installment, A Clash of Kings, doesn’t even take us half way into the series and there was plenty of action, including epic battles, a red sorceress, a queen with growing dragons, 4 kings claiming rights to the throne and a threat that is larger than them all looming in the books to come. I love being led into a world I could never have dreamed and made to hate and fall in love with characters facing their own human conditions through tests of fate. A Game of Thrones and A Clash of Kings does not hold back on the betrayal and death but it also has you yearning for love, forgiveness and above all, honor.
