J.K. Rowling fans, take note! It was announced today that the second novel in the Cormoran Strike series by Robert Galbraith — aka J.K. Rowling — will be published this summer. The Silkworm will hit the bookshelves in the United Kingdom on June 19 and in the U.S. on June 24.
You may remember last year when Rowling was uncovered as the author of The Cuckoo’s Calling. Published in April 2013, the book sold around 500 hardcover copies between April and the July revelation that Galbraith was really Rowling. After the announcement, 17,662 hardcover copies were sold from July 14 to July 20, and the book topped Amazon’s bestseller list within hours. Amazon’s “Movers and Shakers” section reported that sales for the book increased 507,000 percent after the Rowling announcement.
The crime novel introduced readers to Cormoran Strike, a smart, down-on-his-luck London private investigator hired to look into the supposed suicide of supermodel Lulu Landry. With his new assistant, Robin, Strike navigates the ins and outs of Lulu’s extravagant and complicated life to find out the truth about her death.
In The Sillkworm, Strike and Robin investigate the death of an author, who recently wrote a novel providing true, but unflattering details about many of his associates. If published, the book would destroy lives, which gives any one of the real-life subjects motive for murder.
