National Button Week: Sewing Buttons Collecting and Crafting

Find out about the history and mystery of sewing buttons from around the world. There will be displays of buttons and button hooks. Every attendee will receive a sampler packet of buttons, all labeled for new learners to Identify their buttons at home. A question and answer session will follow the program. Presenter Mona Abrahamson has been learning about and avidly collecting sewing buttons for ten years. She is a member of the National Button Society, Iowa State Button Society (and editor of the ISBS bulletin), and Central Iowa Button Club.

The East Side Library Meeting Room is reserved as a Polk County City Election Polling Place. The Meeting Room doors will open to the public at 7:00 AM for voting. The Meeting Room doors will close to the public and voting will cease at 9:00 PM. Library services will not be available to the public from 7:00 AM to 10:00 AM and 8:00 PM to 9:00 PM. Library services will be available to the public during normal operating hours: 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM.

Author Visit: A Family's Mental Health Journey and Polk County Resources

Join us to hear from a local author on his family's mental health journey and receive information about resources available for mental health.

The evening will begin with a brief presentation from Iowa State University's Polk County Extension staff on resources available in Polk county to address mental health needs.

Following, local author, James Stordahl, will present on:
-Living with Bipolar Disorder and raising a child with mental health challenges
-Coping with Bipolar Disorder
-‘Owning’ your disability
