Family Storytime: Monarch Tagging

Monarch Butterflies are especially attracted to the nectar of the native Iowa plants. Joel Van Roekel, Supervisor of Environmental Education, Des Moines Parks and Recreation, will show us how to tag and release Monarch Butterflies with fun activities and games!

Bring the entire family together early in the evening for stories, songs and occasional crafts. It's a great way for busy parents to relax and listen to stories with their children. You can even wear your jammies!

Instrument Petting Zoo with the Des Moines Symphony Academy

Sep 16
Monday 6:30 pm
Help us welcome the Des Moines Symphony Academy’s "Instrument Petting Zoo" to the South Side Library! Children will have the chance to "pet" and play a violin and cello, listen to kid-friendly tunes, and learn more about classical instruments. We'll also have a music note scratch art craft, too! For youth ages 3-12.

Bad Art Night: Nailed It! Edition

Join us for another Bad Art Night at the East Side Library. This time, we are using our "skills" to decorate cookies like Netflix's Nailed It! There will be a golden chef's hat, a magical trophy, and plenty of cookies to go around. Work as a team or individually and our special guest judges will award prizes. Challenge yourself to be best (worst) decorator while you browse our collection of inspirational baking cookbooks.
