Meeting Rooms:

Franklin Library meeting room

Meeting rooms are available at all branch locations. Each room has tables and chairs which you may arrange as needed. Some locations have dry erase boards and lecterns available for use.

FEES PER HOUR*

  • For-Profit Organizations: $20
  • Non-Profit Organizations: No Charge (meetings must be open to the public to be free of charge)

* A maintenance fee of $20 per event is also required if food or beverages are served. This applies to all groups.

Conference Rooms

Conference rooms are available at East Side, Forest Avenue, and Franklin Avenue Libraries. Each room has a table with chairs, as well as a mounted dry erase board.

RENTAL GUIDELINES – Branch Facilities

  • Rooms are only available during regular library hours.
  • Rooms are not available for private parties or personal use.
  • All events booked as nonprofit must submit or have on file proof of 501 (c) 3 status. Nonprofit organizations are subject to the Iowa Open Meeting Laws or they must pay the for-profit rate.
  • Rental fee includes time for set up and take down. Users will not be admitted before or after their scheduled reservation time.
  • Space cannot be booked more than eight weeks in advance to allow for the scheduling of library programming.
  • No library location may be listed as the permanent meeting place for any organization.
  • No fundraising (donations or sales) may be done at the library.
  • Users are responsible for returning the room to the basic setup configuration and for the condition in which the room is left.
  • Users must supply their own AV equipment including computers, projectors, and cables and the library staff will not operate or troubleshoot any equipment during the event.
  • The library offers free Wi-Fi. This may not support high bandwidth applications.
  • All groups using public meeting space at the libraries must meet fire code occupancy limitations.
  • Free parking is available at all neighborhood branches.
  • Refunds for cancellation will be given if cancelled five or more business days in advance.

Branch Library Study Room Guidelines

Study Rooms at the Des Moines Public Library are available to use free of charge at the East Side Library, North Side Library, Forest Avenue Library, and Franklin Avenue Library.

Who May Use

  • One user of the room must show a valid DMPL library card to check out the room. This user is responsible for the condition of the room.
  • Study room use is limited to users with a library card balance of no more than ten dollars.
  • At least one member of a group using the study room must be 14 years old.
  • Rooms may not be used for commercial or business purposes, with the exception of paid tutors.

Reserving

  • Reservations are on a first come, first served basis. Advance reservations are not accepted.
  • Reservations are limited to two hours and made on the hour and half hour.
  • Study room users may not sign up for more than one two-hour session per day. A person who has used a study rooms as a member of a group may not be assigned another study room the same day.
  • Study rooms are reserved during the hours the library is open up to thirty minutes before closing.

Study Room Use Regulations

  • Study room users are expected to follow the guidelines of the Des Moines Public Library Customer Behavior Policy.
  • Users are responsible for leaving the rooms in a neat and orderly condition, with trash put into the proper container. Failure to do so may result in the denial of future room requests.
  • The library is not responsible for the loss of or damage to any equipment owned or rented by an individual or group using a study room.
  • At least one member of the group must stay in the room at all times. Empty rooms may be assigned to another group.
  • The door must remain unobstructed. Windows on room doors must remain uncovered.
