Join us for this rare opportunity to see one of America’s most popular and respected writers. John Irving is a National Book Award winner for The World According to Garp, and an Academy Award winner for Best Adapted Screenplay for The Cider House Rules, based on his popular book.
Irving will be recognized with the 2017 Iowa Author Award. Many of his books include Iowa as a setting. He taught for, and earned his MFA from, the University of Iowa where he studied at the Iowa Writers’ Workshop with Kurt Vonnegut. Irving’s novels are American classics – each one a publishing event.
A former competitive wrestler and coach, he was inducted into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame in 1992, and in 2001 he was elected into the American Academy of Arts and Letters. Irving has won the O. Henry Award and awards from the Rockefeller Foundation, the National Endowment for the Arts, and the Guggenheim Foundation.
Plan to join us as we honor The Easter Family with the 2017 Friend of Literacy Award.
Enjoy a delicious fall harvest dinner and wine.
