Science Center of Iowa's "Boom!"

Kids and families! Do you like things that pop, bang or explode? Visit South and explore the interactions of pressure, temperature and states of matter with educators from the Science Center of Iowa! Kids can watch experiments with ultra-cold nitrogen and combustible gases to learn why things bang and blow up! All ages welcome. Parent or guardian must be present with children.

ISU Insect Zoo

The Iowa State University’s Insect Zoo is bringing some of their creepiest bugs to the South Side Library! They will be sharing information about lots of different insects. Drop in between 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. in the Meeting Room to see creepy, crawly, LIVE insects up close. All ages welcome!

Easy To Make Foods For Teens

Teens! Bring your taste buds and your culinary skills and register for our Easy To Make Foods for Teens session! Meet Hy-Vee's Registered Dietitian, Anne Cundiff, and learn how to make smoothie bowls, wraps, and a healthy, edible version of chocolate chip cookie dough! For Teens ages 12-18. Preregistration required. Space is limited. Groups may not register for this program. Please notify us if you have a food allergy when registering.

FULL - Kids in the Kitchen

Does your child love to cook? Visit the South Side Library in partnership with the Iowa State University Extension Outreach and learn how to make easy, kid-friendly snacks. Kids will learn lessons about food safety and nutrition and make a snack. Participants will need to attend all seven sessions. For youth ages 5-11. Preregistration required. Space is limited. Groups may not register for this program.
