Holiday closures this week

All locations of the Des Moines Public Library will be closed Thursday, November 28 and Friday, November 29 for Thanksgiving. Normal hours resume on Saturday, November 30.

Adventure Pass Changes in 2025

Due to software issues affecting all libraries using the service, the Des Moines Public Library’s Iowa Adventure Pass program will no longer be available in 2025. Any reservation already made for 2025 will be honored, but we encourage anyone with a current reservation to print those passes immediately. Customers can make new reservations for passes that must be used by December 31, 2024. We hope to reintroduce the service at a later time, and we apologize for the inconvenience.

  • Stream and Download popular eBooks, eAudiobooks, digital magazines, and award-winning films and television shows.

    • Once you have your library card number and PIN, be sure to download the Libby app, available on the App Store and Google Play to get eBooks and eAudiobooks!

    • Check out Kanopy to find streaming movies.

    • Residency restrictions may apply to digital media content.

  • Browse and Borrow hundreds of thousands of books, DVDs, CDs and more inside all six of our library buildings. In addition, our Library of Things allows you to borrow board games, kitchen and household tools, tech equipment, and much more!

  • Keep up with the news with free digital access to The New York Times, The Washington Post, and The Wall Street Journal.

  • Research and learn using our databases, online resources, research tools and more - including free access to Consumer Reports.

You can also sign up for a temporary digital card. A digital DMPL card lets you use some digital resources and databases, but you will not have access to: Libby, checking out physical materials, Kanopy, Iowa Adventure Passes, and more. A digital card expires after 60 days, and you must come into a library building to upgrade to a physical full-access library card.

Click HERE to sign up for a digital card, or come into one of our buildings today to get your free full-access card.
