Adventure Pass Ending in 2025

Due to circumstances outside of our control, the Des Moines Public Library’s Iowa Adventure Pass service will no longer be available in 2025. Any reservation already made for 2025 will be honored, but we encourage anyone with a current reservation to print those passes immediately. Customers can make new reservations for passes that must be used by December 31, 2024. We hope to reintroduce the service at a later time, and we apologize for the inconvenience. 

DMPL Podcast: Barry Phipps

Artist Barry Phipps

Iowa photographer and artist Barry Phipps joins us on the podcast today. Barry recently published a collection of photos called From Gravity to What Cheer: Iowa Photographs. The book has several striking photos of sites across Iowa, with a focus on color and architecture. Several of those photos are currently on display at the Central Library Art Gallery through January 23.

During the podcast, Barry talks about moving to Iowa City in 2012, how the photos developed from a personal project of curiosity to the published book, and his past life as a DJ and as a part of a 90s rock band that played at Lollapalooza and appeared on MTV.

Barry will talk publically about Between Gravity and What Cheer and his Iowa adventures on Wednesday, January 23, at 6:30 PM.
