Do you like reading books? Do you like winning cash? We thought so, so we made a contest just for you. It's time to tell you about the 2019 DMPL Reading Challenge.
What is the 2019 DMPL Reading Challenge?
The Reading Challenge is simple. We're asking you to read 12 books in 12 months - one book in each of twelve different categories selected by our librarians. Our librarians have been so helpful, in fact, that they have even put together a list of 7-10 books for each category that they recommend! Of course, you may read any book that fits within a category. We're just trying to help you out.
What were you saying about cash?
Well, here's where we talk about the prizes. At the end of March, June, and August, if you've kept up with the challenge - i.e. you've read three books by the end of March, six books by the end of June, nine books by the end of August - you'll be entered into a drawing for one of three $20 Visa gift cards, which can be used anywhere Visa is accepted. At the end of December, if you've completed the challenge - read 12 books, one in each category - not only will you be entered to win the quarterly prizes, but you'll also have a chance at our two grand prizes: $150 in Visa gift cards and $100 in Visa gift cards.
Why are you having us read books in different categories?
The categories have been chosen to help diversify the books you read. We know we have tons of patrons that read just romances, mysteries, or non-fiction books. We love you! We also want to help expand the horizons of what books you read. Those recommended reading lists our librarians have put together are filled with great books - guaranteed! Who knows... you may discover an author or genre that you absolutely adore.
What if I miss a month?
It's also never too late to get started, and you can always catch up if you fall behind. If you don't register until March, just read three books in March to be eligible for the quarterly prize. Finish 12 books by the end of the year, and you can still win the grand prize. If you miss a month, just read two books the next month.
Can you tell me more about the categories?
We'll reveal them next Monday, December 31. We can give you some hints, though. Books on the recommended reading list include a book about a tech tycoon's daughter, a story about a mysterious area on Earth that defies physics, and a novel about chefs competing in a high-stakes TV cooking competition.
How well I know which category I need to read each month?
There is no assigned category for each month. For example, if one of the categories were "books with talking mice," you could read any book with talking mice in January, July, or November, and it would still count. ("Books with talking mice" will not be a category.)
Is there an age range to be eligible?
This is an adult contest, so you must be 18 years or older to register. A person who turns 18 over the course of the year be register and begin participating on or after their birthday.
How do I get started?
It's easy! Head on over to dmpl.org/readingchallenge and click on "Register for the Challenge." If you do not have a Beanstack account, you'll be asked to sign up for one. Beanstack is a fantastic way to track the books that you've read, and it's very easy to use. Use Beanstack to log your reading, and you'll be automatically entered into those drawings at the end of each month if you're eligible.
Let your friends and family know about the challenge as well! Again, it begins next Monday, December 31. Good luck!
