Cover for Buffering

Buffering

“I just finished the eAudiobook of Buffering by YouTube star Hannah Hart. Hearing a voice that I’m used to associating with comedy tackle some dark, serious subjects that are directly related to Hart’s own past gave me a newfound appreciation for her – something I’m not 100% positive I would have gotten from reading the book instead of listening.” – Hayleigh, DMPL Digital Media Specialist

"Join the Ukelele Craze and Learn How to Play!" banner

Ukelele

“North Side Library offers ukulele lessons once a week in four-week chunks. I have sensitive fingers and didn’t know if I could play this instrument. I rented a ukulele from the library, and my dad and I took the classes together. I really enjoy this instrument and went out to buy my own last week! Now my dad and I can have ukulele jam sessions at home. Thanks, North Side!” – Katy, DMPL Library Assistant

MORE INFO: Ukulele classes at North will start back up in April. Check out our full schedule of programming HERE.

The Fault in Our Stars and its mini book

Dwarsliggers

“I am liking our new mini books, also known as dwarsliggers! They are handy for travel (weighing practically nothing) and can fit in your back pocket or a small purse. Among those currently in our collection, genres are for teen and adult readers. A new fun way to read!” – Luann, DMPL Clerk

Queen and Stingray Qello banner

Queen's 1981 Montreal concert on Qello

"Queen's 1981 Montreal concert on QelloBohemiam Rhapsody just won four Oscars, which reminded me of this performance by the band, considered one of the greatest live rock shows of all time and featuring frontman Freddie Mercury at his absolute prime as a performer." – Tim, DMPL Community Engagement Supervisor

MORE INFO: Cardholders who live in Des Moines or rural Polk County can stream Qello (the best way to watch concerts and music documentaries) for free.

Book cover for "The Hate U Give"

The Hate U Give

“I just finished The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas on eAudiobook. I really enjoyed listening to it as the narrator was able to pronounce the names and get into the flow with the characters' slang in a way that I wouldn’t have been able to if I had read the book on my own. The narrator also did a great job switching voices between characters. It is a thought-provoking book, and I enjoyed listening to it. - Katy, DMPL Library Assistant
