Program Description

Event Details

Accessory Dwelling Units or ADUs are known by many other names, including granny flats, backyard bungalows, guest houses, in-law suites, basement apartments, carriage houses, and casitas.

They are fully self-contained homes on the same lot as the primary house. As an independent living space, an ADU is self-contained, with its own kitchen or kitchenette, bathroom and sleeping area; the ADU can be located within, attached to or detached from the main residence.

ADUs can be an important source of affordable housing to keep housing costs down for both owners and renters.

Do you want to learn more about Accessory Dwelling Units or are you thinking about adding one to your property?  Our handy panel of experts can help you find your way and provide details about building an ADU in Des Moines!
