Event Details
The application for student loan cancellation--up to $10,000 for most borrowers and $20,000 for Pell grant recipients--is set to be released in early October. If you earn less than $125,000 and have federal student loans, you are eligible. Some people will receive their cancellation automatically, but most eligible borrowers will need to apply. Come to the library for help accessing the application and filling it out. You can bring your own device or use one of ours.
Edit: Since we posted this event, the Department of Education has announced that borrowers with privately-held Federal Family Education Loans (FFEL) and Perkins Loans are not eligible for loan forgiveness now. If that policy changes, we will update.
You don't need any documents; you do need your social security number. If you don't want to do anything involving your SSN at the library, you can access the application at home via studentaid.gov or email Nikki at nmrhodes@dmpl.org for a direct link.
