Celebrating Our Diversity: Learning from our Asian and Pacific Islander Neighbors

The Office of Asian and Pacific Islander Affairs is excited to collaborate with the Des Moines Public Library to celebrate Asian and Pacific Islander Heritage Month. This informational session will include maps, data, fun facts about Asia, and the Pacific Island Nations, and a show and tell of crafts from Trevy's origin country, Federated States of Micronesia. 

Trevy Augustin leads the Office of Asian and Pacific Islander Affairs, with the intention of strengthening bonds between the AAPI community, Iowa's Governing bodies, and agencies that serve AAPI Iowans. Prior to starting this new role, Trevy Augustin enjoyed working in Student Affairs at Washington University in St. Louis where she completed her Master of Social Work in 2018. Trevy's interest in working in the community stemmed from her service year with AmeriCorps City Year in New England where she saw the disparities in lower resourced communities and how it affected students' academic performance. Paired with a degree in Political Science, Trevy sees her role as a way to combine policy analysis and community social work to better serve the AAPI Iowan community. Moreover, Trevy is a proud Micronesian- American, and the daughter of Micronesian Immigrants whose heritage includes multiple ethnic groups within the Federated States of Micronesia.
