Join members of the Des Moines Weavers and Spinners Guild to weave on a cardboard loom.
Weaving is an ancient craft, dating back to Neolithic times approximately 12,000 years ago. Whether using grasses, bark, sticks, wood, or fibers, humans have used weaving to make shelters, vessels, clothing, and other useful items. Looms have been used since around 4000 BCE, and continue to be used today.
We will use a very simple cardboard loom to make a small woven project. You may make a flat piece or a pouch in this class. The cardboard loom and yarn will be provided, but if you have scrap yarn, bring it for your project. This is a great way to use up small amounts of yarn!
Materials needed: A kitchen fork or hair pick and scissors.
If you have scrap yarn or a tapestry needle, feel free to bring them to use.
