Adventure Pass Changes in 2025

Due to software issues affecting all libraries using the service, the Des Moines Public Library’s Iowa Adventure Pass program will no longer be available in 2025. Any reservation already made for 2025 will be honored, but we encourage anyone with a current reservation to print those passes immediately. Customers can make new reservations for passes that must be used by December 31, 2024. We hope to reintroduce the service at a later time, and we apologize for the inconvenience.

Find out about George Washington Carver's time at Iowa's own Simpson College with archivist Cyd Dyer. Learn about the unique connections between George W. Carver and Simpson College through stories and artifacts housed in The Carver Collection in the college archives. Who is Carver? What did he remember most about his time at Simpson in the 1890s? Why is this collection important? What influence does Carver have today?

Cyd Dyer is the College Librarian/Archivist at Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa. She has worked with The Carver Collection in the Simpson College Archives for decades. Cyd has served as President of the Iowa Library Association, chair of the Iowa Private Academic Libraries (IPAL), and was a 10-year member of the Indianola Community Schools Board of Directors.  She currently serves on the Indianola Public Library Board of Trustees and is certified in Tai Chi.

Cyd received a B.A. in Communications Studies and M.A. in Library and Information Science from The University of Iowa. Her passion for archival work began when she worked in Iowa’s Special Collections during graduate school.
