Join us to discuss Zora Neale Hurston: Jump at the Sun. Before the program, watch the movie on Kanopy. (If you'd like, you can borrow her work from the library's collection too.) Then join the library on Zoom to talk about the film and Hurston's life.
Zora Neale Hurston: Jump at the Sun features historians and scholars, authors like Alice Walker and Edwidge Danticat, footage from Hurston's own ethnographic work, excerpts of her writing, and more to tell the story of Hurston's life and legacy. It was directed by Oscar nominee Sam Pollard.

To create a Kanopy account through DMPL, you need a library card, and you'll need to be a resident of Des Moines, Windsor Heights, or rural Polk County. Many other libraries also offer Kanopy access for their local residents, and you don't have to be a DMPL user to attend the program! If you don't have a library card already, you can get a digital card on our website or stop in when your library is open.
This program has limited space so everyone can participate; registration is required. After successful registration, you will receive a confirmation email with the link and password to the zoom meeting.
