Holiday closures this week

All locations of the Des Moines Public Library will be closed Thursday, November 28 and Friday, November 29 for Thanksgiving. Normal hours resume on Saturday, November 30.

Adventure Pass Changes in 2025

Due to software issues affecting all libraries using the service, the Des Moines Public Library’s Iowa Adventure Pass program will no longer be available in 2025. Any reservation already made for 2025 will be honored, but we encourage anyone with a current reservation to print those passes immediately. Customers can make new reservations for passes that must be used by December 31, 2024. We hope to reintroduce the service at a later time, and we apologize for the inconvenience.

Program Description

Event Details

We invite you to visit the traveling exhibit, Let Me Be Myself: The Life Story of Anne Frank at the Franklin Avenue Library from Sunday, June 12th through Thursday, June 30th. Making use of large size pictures, the exhibit tells the story of Anne Frank from her birth in 1929 up to her death in the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp in 1945. Each panel also contains images and texts about the world around Anne Frank: the rise of Hitler, the persecution of the Jews, and the Second World War. Through the life and legacy of Anne Frank, visitors are encouraged to consider how prejudice can lead to exclusion and discrimination in current times.

The exhibit is free and open to the public. Refugee Alliance of Central Iowa will also be offering guided tours. For more information or to schedule a tour, contact Refugee Alliance of Central Iowa at: https://www.refugeeallianceofcentraliowa.org/worldrefugeeday

Let Me Be Myself: The Life Story of Anne Frank was developed by the Anne Frank House, Amsterdam, and is distributed throughout the U.S. by the Anne Frank Center at the University of South Carolina. It was made available to communities throughout the state of Iowa by the University of Iowa Provost’s Global Forum.
