Kick off Summer Reading with an afternoon of fun for youth of all ages!
Littles can enjoy a live musical performance from Mr. K's Clubhouse and have some fun in the open play room featuring the Simple Steps: READ, WRITE, SING, PLAY & TALK!
Kids, try your hand at great games like Plinko and show off your creativity with graphic novel activities!
Teens, you can attend a comic workshop with Basi Affia, comic creator and owner of Des Moines' own Sensiil Studios, challenge your friends to Nintendo Switch games, and make manga and graphic-novel collage art!
No matter what age you are, don't skip the photo ops with magical princesses, awesome superheroes, and our favorite community mascots!
But that's not all: this is the Summer Reading Kickoff, after all. Youth ages 0-18 can register for Summer Reading and get a free book with a special Summer Reading Kickoff bag!

Central Parking
Free library parking is available in Central's underground parking garage for two hours per visit. Parking around the library is metered at various costs from 9 a.m. - 9 p.m. Monday-Saturday.
Children’s Program
Children under 10 years old must be accompanied by a caregiver over 12 years old.
