Adventure Pass Changes in 2025

Due to software issues affecting all libraries using the service, the Des Moines Public Library’s Iowa Adventure Pass program will no longer be available in 2025. Any reservation already made for 2025 will be honored, but we encourage anyone with a current reservation to print those passes immediately. Customers can make new reservations for passes that must be used by December 31, 2024. We hope to reintroduce the service at a later time, and we apologize for the inconvenience.

Join us for a very special virtual Authors Visiting in Des Moines (AViD) featuring best-selling novelist Kate Quinn on Wednesday, December 9 at 7:00 PM (CST).

Kate Quinn is a New York Times bestselling historical fiction author. She’s written several novels, including The Huntress, which was published in 2019, and The Empress of Rome series. Her 2017 novel, The Alice Network, was a runaway bestseller, and one of the first Reese Witherspoon Hello Sunshine book club selections. The Alice Network the third-most requested novel at the Des Moines Public Library in 2019.

When the COVID-19 pandemic forced the Des Moines Public Library to close its doors and cancel all in-person programming in March 2020, our annual visiting speaker series, Authors Visiting in Des Moines, was also canceled. But we are pleased to announce that AViD is back — and it's going virtual! We are working hard to finalize a very special 2020-21 virtual AViD lineup — a group of award-winning, bestselling authors that will include some of the speakers who were planning to visit us last season.

Register to reserve your spot and receive your Zoom invitation prior to the event. This program is a moderated presentation. Library staff will monitor the submissions and pass as many questions as possible to the author. Disruptive or disrespectful behavior may result in removal from the program. This program will be recorded.

AViD is sponsored by the Des Moines Public Library Foundation with the support of its generous donors.

Books are available to purchase at Beaverdale Books. A portion of sales will go back to the library to help fund future AViD events.
