Program Description

Event Details

Dungeons & Dragons is a role-playing game set in worlds of swords and sorcery where players use their imaginations to tell a story and create an adventure together.
Join us as we learn the basics of how to get started and play with The Rook Room. We will learn everything from character creation, to combat, to the basics of storytelling, and more.

  • Session One (April 06): We will give a general overview of the game and learn how to create a character
  • Session Two (April 20): Every D&D game needs a Dungeon Master.  Tonight we will learn how to play this important role in a D&D game.
  • Free Play (May 18): New and experienced players are welcome to play a one-shot game of Dungeons & Dragons!

Now that you know how to play, let’s jump into a campaign!

We’ll be playing through a quick one-shot campaign taking about 2 hours and including both role-playing and combat elements.

Whether you want to give D&D a try, start a new campaign with your friends, or even make some new friends, join us for a night of adventure!

For this free play event, the one-shot campaign will be pre-written with all the information necessary to play through including the story, setting, NPCs, enemy stats, items, maps, and more.

The adventure will be built for 3rd level player characters. Players can feel free to bring their own pre-built, 3rd-level characters or choose from any of the 3rd-level characters provided at the event. Dice and mini-figures will be available to borrow along with D&D guides.

Dungeon or Game Masters will not be guaranteed. If you have a friend who is interested in DMing, this is the perfect opportunity with a short, pre-designed campaign with all necessary resources as well as Rook Room and library staff available to help with any questions. Depending on attendance and needs, staff may be available to DM, but again, it is not guaranteed.

(Note: It is not necessary to come to each session. While D&D is recommended for ages 11 and up, this series is designed for adults.)
