Adventure Pass Changes in 2025

Due to software issues affecting all libraries using the service, the Des Moines Public Library’s Iowa Adventure Pass program will no longer be available in 2025. Any reservation already made for 2025 will be honored, but we encourage anyone with a current reservation to print those passes immediately. Customers can make new reservations for passes that must be used by December 31, 2024. We hope to reintroduce the service at a later time, and we apologize for the inconvenience.

Best-selling author J. Ryan Stradal’s anticipated new novel, Saturday Night at the Lakeside Supper Club, will be released April 18. The book tells the story of a couple from two very different restaurant families in Minnesota and the legacy of love, tragedy, struggle and hope that unites and divides them. It continues Stradal’s signature style of crafting uniquely Midwest characters and stories. In a starred review, Kirkus said, “Stradal … displays his gift for writing female characters who are fully realized, sometimes unlikable, but always as flawed and compelling as real people.”

His debut novel, 2016’s Kitchens of the Great Midwest, was called a “sweet and savory treat” by People. He is also the author of the 2019 bestseller, The Lager Queen of Minnesota, was named one of the best books of the year by publications such as NPR, USA Today, Booklist, Paste and more.
