While the Des Moines Public Library remains temporarily closed due to public health concerns surrounding COVID-19, we are shifting our celebration of the Week of the Young Child.
WOYC is an annual event sponsored by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) to celebrate young children and their families and teachers. The focus is on early learning, with collaborative activities that encourage healthy living through music, food, art and other activities.
Each day this week focuses on a different theme. Check out our tips for activities, books, and more!

Simple Steps to Success
The Des Moines Public Library’s Simple Steps initiative is another way to focus your energy on early literacy this Week of the Young Child.
There are 5 simple things you can do with your child to help them succeed. Take a few minutes out of each day to Read, Write, Sing, Play, and Talk with your child. These easy acts make a big difference in a child’s life.
Pasos Sencillos: Esto es fácil de hacer, cada día, donde quiera que esté. No toma mucho tiempo. Son pasos simples para el éxito.
