Holiday closures this week

All locations of the Des Moines Public Library will be closed Thursday, November 28 and Friday, November 29 for Thanksgiving. Normal hours resume on Saturday, November 30.

Adventure Pass Changes in 2025

Due to software issues affecting all libraries using the service, the Des Moines Public Library’s Iowa Adventure Pass program will no longer be available in 2025. Any reservation already made for 2025 will be honored, but we encourage anyone with a current reservation to print those passes immediately. Customers can make new reservations for passes that must be used by December 31, 2024. We hope to reintroduce the service at a later time, and we apologize for the inconvenience.

Event Details

Are you a mighty girl*? Ready to become a mighty woman but have questions? Then join DMPL and community experts to get your questions answered in this four-session series. Know your body, know yourself, and get empowered!

Session topics will include the following:

Monday, July 12: Empowered is a Mighty Word: An Introduction

Monday, July 19: Families, BFFs, and Baes: Building Successful Relationships

Monday, July 26: LGBTQ and Beyond: Gender Identity, Expression, and What Makes Each of Us Unique

Monday, August 2: **Period and Puberty Positivity: Puberty and Sex Education Basics
**Anatomy for all bodies will be discussed during this session.

Please sign up for the first session on July 12, which will enroll attendees in all following sessions as well. Although attendance at every session is strongly encouraged, it is not required.

Once you register, you will receive a confirmation email with the Zoom meeting information as well as information about when and how to pick up your Mighty Girl Empowerment Kit, which contains everything you'll need to participate in each session of the program. These will be available for pick up starting Thursday, July 1 at the Franklin Avenue Library youth desk.

The Mighty Girl Empowerment series seeks to empower and encourage independence among girls, so we respectfully suggest parents/caregivers do not participate in the Zoom sessions.
